Matthew Heintz, LCSW
Hello there! I am a psychotherapist specializing in helping adults learn what ADHD is and how their neurodivergence affects them. ADHD often comes in combination with feelings of anxiety depression and general difficulty with life transitions. I have developed skills to teach clients to listen to their mind and understand, and perhaps more importantly accept, how it works. Many of my clients have faced problems of struggling with worry to achieve their personal and professional goals, low self esteem or developing healthy relationship boundaries. While this is my focus, I have worked effectively with people and problems outside of this specialty as well.
I have helped clients make significant positive change in areas of anxiety, depression, anger, grief, self esteem and trauma as well. I work with my clients to find what skills work best for them and always emphasize the importance of “meet yourself where you’re at.”
I use an ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, approach in my work. This means, I focus on helping individuals develop skills to accept their thoughts and feelings without judgment and identify actions in line with their personal values. I enjoy explaining the psychology behind my approaches and my clients find this information to be valuable as well. My approach teaches clients to work with the mind rather than fight against it.
Matt Heintz, just a guy
My work as a therapist is an important part of who I am, but it is not the only part. I ask my clients to be transparent about themselves so I feel it’s only fair if I do some of the same.
When I’m not working, I’m likely spending time with my dogs, Hero and Bella. You may hear or see them in sessions, but I promise they take the private nature of therapy very seriously.
I love Dungeons and Dragons and run my own campaign as a DM. I believe being silly and playing pretend is an important life skill and I’d love to see more adults embrace this side of themselves.
I enjoy learning fun facts, for example sea horses have multiple ways of showing affection such as hugging, dancing and holding each others tails! I’d love to hear any interesting facts you know as well.
